Blackheads, Moles and Milia | Korean Aesthetic Clinic

This segment focuses on the top 3 blemishes people want removed from their skin. I will share with you how to assess if you have them, how to treat them and how to prevent them from recurring. Moles:

Everyone has moles. The question is whether it is visible or not. And most importantly, whether it bothers you.

Moles can be your trademark, that special feature that sets you apart from the rest. Here are some famous examples.

So before you decide to remove your mole, here are some important facts.

What are moles?

They are the growth and collection of melanocytes, they can be congenital, but are often acquired. Cause is multifactorial, genetic, sun exposure and immune reaction. We can classify them based on their origin.

  1. Junctional nevus (flat moles)
  2. Compound – dermal and junctional component. (Mixed)
  3. Dermal nevus (raised moles)

Note of caution. Moles can turn cancerous. And this is a problem that does not affect caucasians only. So if your mole has the following characteristics, it is best not to remove them but to investigate further.

  • It has ABCD characteristics (Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Colour variation, Diameter > 6 mm)
  • It is bleeding, crusted or itchy

Treatment:

Options include lightening creams, IPL, Lasers.

Prevention:

Strict sun protection can help, but it is not sufficient to prevent new moles from appearing.

Milia

What is a milia?

Milia occur when dead skin cells get trapped under the skin’s surface, forming small, hard cysts.

The key is how to treat, and subsequently how to prevent it from recurring.

Treatment

Treatment involves making a tiny nick in the skin and extracting the contents.

Prevention

Millia can be prevented by the use of AHA and BHA peels, Vitamin A creams and exfoliation.

Blackheads

What are blackheads?

Blackheads are derived from  sebum and keratin that have undergone oxidation. It is termed a whitehead if it has an opening onto the skin surface. Blackheads are commonly found on the T zone area, nose, chin, forehead, and sometimes over your cheeks.

Blackheads clog up your sebaceous gland, this can get inflamed leading to cystic acne and eventually acne scars.

Treatment:
Blackheads can be popped.  Deep stubborn blackheads can be prepped with AHA, v

Prevention:

Regular exfoliation with AHA and Vit A creams helps.

Laser Facials
